Due to the scheduled transportation for our participants, C.E.R.T.S. does not dismiss early due to inclement weather which means a snow storm or a hurricane. Families who choose to pick up their loved ones are free to do so at any time but please be mindful that an early closing of either our New Castle or Kent County locations will not take place due to winter weather because of the arranged transportation of our participants.
If the threat of a snow storm is predicted that could result in significant accumulation or ice, an agency closing might be necessary. In this scenario, C.E.R.T.S. will follow our established procedure listed below:
C.E.R.T.S. is set up with SnoWatch on WDEL 1150 AM, WDEL 101.7 FM and WSTW 93.7 FM as well as online at wdel.com and wstw.com. Families interested in learning whether or not C.E.R.T.S. is open can either log on to one of the websites or turn the radio to either of the sister stations. SnoWatch is activated when there is winter weather or “StormWatch” during hurricane season, for example.
On the station’s website, SnoWatch will show what schools and businesses are closed or delayed due to the weather. If C.E.R.T.S. is closed, you will see it listed there. If you do not see C.E.R.T.S. listed as being closed by 7:00 a.m. that means the program will be open for the day. We realize this decision needs to be made early so participants can still get ready in time to make their bus, or so that families can make alternate plans if the weather is too poor for C.E.R.T.S. to open.
Because the two C.E.R.T.S. sites are in different counties and the weather between the counties can vary, there may be a day where one location is closed for the day and the other is not. It is therefore very important to listen/read carefully which location will be closed.
In case bad weather strikes and you don’t remember which radio station to check, the instructions for winter weather closings will remain posted here for your reference.
If you have any questions regarding winter weather closings or how to access SnoWatch, feel free to contact Vivian Turner, Executive Director at (302) 731-0301, x102 or vturner@certsinc.org.
As always safety is our main focus for our staff, participants and their families.
